Suprotik (Protik) Basu, MHS, is an investor and founder, focusing primarily on healthcare companies that through either service provision or through their technology will have an impact to improve health equity in emerging markets and the developing world. He is a Senior Advisor to Wesray Social Investments, where he focuses on mobilizing private capital for public health, and biotechnology investments.   Protik co-founded and was a Partner at Blue like an Orange Sustainable Capital, a social impact-oriented private equity firm, where he originated and led transactions, was Head of Sustainability and Impact, served on the Investment Committee, and chaired the Sustainability Committee. Protik exited Blue Orange in 2021 following the sale of a minority interest to a French multinational insurance company. He continues to serve on the Firm’s Advisory Council. Previously, Basu was Chief Executive Officer for the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Health, philanthropist, and Founder of Wesray Capital Corporation, Ray Chambers, managing the international health portfolio of the family office. During his tenure as CEO, and prior to that as its Managing Director, Basu oversaw the group’s efforts to mobilize and deploy over $3.5 billion of resources to end deaths from malaria in Africa, and to improve child and maternal health in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Basu focused substantially on creative financing solutions and engaging the private sector to enable those solutions, for instance, through the use of backstop guarantees and engineering of interest-rate buy-downs on achievement of independently verified key results.  In addition, Basu oversaw the formation of the End Malaria Council, co-chaired by Ray Chambers, Bill Gates, and President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and which laid out a roadmap to eradicate malaria worldwide.   Prior to this role, Basu was a Public Health Specialist at the World Bank Group, where he focused on social sector lending in sub-Saharan Africa and India and co-designed the World Bank’s flagship global malaria control initiative, the Booster Program for Malaria Control. He is a Board member of several non-profits, including Big Win Philanthropy; the social justice non-profit, Partners in Health; as well as the Canadian multinational charity, Nutrition International. He is a former Board member of the legal and immigration defense nonprofit, Brooklyn Defender Services.   Basu also serves on the Board of Princess House, Inc a leading direct-selling company that seeks to expand economic opportunities for a largely female workforce across the United States. Basu holds undergraduate and graduates degrees from Johns Hopkins University and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland. He also currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
