Julia Yansura is the Program Director, Environmental Crime & Illicit Finance at The Financial Accountability and Corporate Transparency (FACT) Coalition. Prior to joining FACT Julia served as the Program Director for Latin America & the Caribbean at Global Financial Integrity (GFI), a Washington, DC-based think tank. She coordinated projects and partnerships in the region that promote transparency, security, and economic development. Her areas of expertise include Central America, anticorruption, anti- money laundering, financial inclusion, and remittances.

Prior to joining GFI, Yansura conducted research and implemented projects related to migration, remittances and economic development. She is the author of over 25 publications on remittances. In 2016, she co-authored the book Centroamérica en la mira, which looks at current trends in Central American migration and presents opportunities to leverage remittances for economic development. In addition, Yansura worked on international development projects related to remittances, financial inclusion and mobile money in Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Mexico and Jamaica. From 2016-2019, she managed a project promoting access to formal financial services for 150,000 people in Guatemala.

Yansura received her undergraduate degree from Grinnell College. She holds an MA in Latin American Studies from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and a certificate in Migration, Refugees, and Humanitarian Crises from the Institute for the Study of International Migration. She is fluent in English and Spanish.
