Beatriz Slooten

Beatriz Slooten is a policy and private sector engagement expert in Latin America, focusing on Central America. She is currently the Latin American and Caribbean Lead for the Private Sector Engagement Support Team, which continuously supports USAID missions in the region to work with the private sector in a market-based approach to achieve development outcomes. 

As a consultant, Beatriz worked for the Inter-American Development Bank as a government advisor for Costa Rica on skill gaps and the attraction of foreign direct investment. She has also consulted with the World Bank on strategies to include women in the workforce in Mexico.

As a Research Coordinator at INCAE Business School, she led projects on media in Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, the Social Progress Index of the Central American region, and supported a Private Sector Landscape Analysis in Nicaragua. During this role, she wrote multiple articles on informality, economic growth, and solid waste. She was also a speaker in the analysis of the social progress of Central America.  

While working as a Program Manager for the Trust for The Americas, Beatriz led development projects financed by Microsoft and worked closely with its implementation in Central America.  Previously, Beatriz served as a technical expert with the International Labor Organization working with private sector associations in Central America. During her career, her work in aligning the Private Sector for development goals in Central America has been fundamental to every project she was involved in.

Beatriz has a master's in public administration from Harvard, Kennedy School of Government, and a Master's in Business Administration from the Latina University in Costa Rica.  She previously graduated with honors as a psychologist.
